Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius - August 5, 2009

For all you folks with Leo and Aquarius prominent and personalized in your natal chart (Sun, Moon or Ascendant) you have reached the end of a long and harsh two year cycle! It comes to and end tonight, August 5, 2009, in the USA at 8:55pm EDT and in Europe (Copenhagen/Brussels) tomorrow morning at 5:55am CEDT, in the form of a full moon (lunar) eclipse.

The eclipse will occur at 13 degrees of Aquarius and is an unusual third lunar eclipse of the season, and the second one of this summer.

You can expect it to touch the Aquarian areas of your life and bring to you final "aha" moments and lessons. You have learned a lot since August 2007 in the life areas covered by Aquarius in particular and also in Leo.

In the mundane, larger world, you expect it to highlight progressive perspectives on humanity, life in general, science, social groups and asociations and knowledge. It will also affect whatever personal areas where you have Aquarius. If it is in your 7th house, then relationships; if it is in your 11th house, then friendships and group associations; if it is in your 8th house, then debts and deep sexual and psychological issues etc.

The other area that will be marked in the larger mundane word is in Leo areas of children, taking risks (such as gambling on the stock market), creativity, being playful, and non-serious but perhaps sexual love affairs.

Because it is a lunar eclipse, if you are a woman, you may decide it is time to end an unsatisfying relationship and walk away; if you are a man, you may see the woman in your life leave you because she can no longer tolerate the relationship and realizes that things have finally run their course for her.

The influence of this lunar eclipse could be felt as early as August 2 and the stronger effect will last until August 9. However, expect that for up to two weeks from the direct hit, you will see the import of it all. The final messages about what is wisest for you to do, which direction to take and what you were to learn in certain areas and from certain people, will be very apparent by August 23.

Of course for many there will be no major event during this eclipse time, but there still may be that unspoken sensitivity to people and events around you. Expect the unexpected and embrace what the Universe brings you!

Leaky Vessel - (Uranus, Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius 2009)

The symbol we know for Aquarius is that of a male pouring what appears to be water out of a large vessel. This is also the symbol we see in the Tarot on the Major Arcana card, The Star.

The traits we commonly associate with Aquarius are general friendliness and humanitarian disposition, honesty and loyalty, originality and inventiveness, independence and a strong intellectual, intractability and contrariness, perversity and stubbornness, an unpredictable nature, and  strong ability to be outwardly unemotional/aloof and detached.


Aquarius people are folks we normally experience as rather consistent in their behaviors (despite the unpredictability at time...which is usually evident when they are trying to shock or impress you). 


But that will all change in 2009 with the gang pile of Uranus, Neptune and Chiron in this sign. Uranus, taking 7 years to transit the sign, is bringing unusual circumstances and people into the lives of Aquarians. Neptune, taking 14 years to transit the sign, is dissolving the world as Aquarian know it and the choice will be to see through to a higher spiritual plane or live in delusion and lies. Chiron, taking about seven years in Aquarius, is showing these people all the "old tapes" they have in their lives about individual vs group and how they want to be unique in this world, without letting ego run rampant.


The years 2009 and 2010 will not be easy for Aquarius folks who are not accustomed to doing hard work on themselves. Those who have previously gotten through on magnetic charm and superficial relationships with people will find it all coming to a crashing halt. Family, friend and work relationships simply will not move forward and there will be dramatic explosions until true, authentic, full openness, the openness promised by the flow from the vessel, will be required.


If it is not forthcoming, the vessel will leak. Lies, inauthentic connections, disingenuous behavior, selfishness -- it will leak out of that vessel in cracks that cannot be sealed. In plain language, they will be exposed.


This all also applies to with world in general. Humanitarian actions had better be true or they will get exposed as lies at a rate faster than anyone has seen in previous times. People who count on beautiful appearances to turn heads away from the ugliness of their behavior will find themselves in the spotlight with all their flaw exposed. It won't be pretty.

I suspect it is the influence of Neptune transiting the constellation Aquarius and seeking clarity that is bringing forth calls for understanding of the inner workings and outward behaviors of Aquarius men. The Aquarius Male

The Aquarius male is a seemingly unconventional and innovative flirt who can charm those around him. Liking to surprise others, he is unhappy if he feels his freedom is being diminished. He believes his way of doing anything is the most superior way. His ego is not out in the open like a Leo, but it is as big as that of a Leo. He can be very argumentative, liking to debate things or fabricate WILD untrue stories just to irritate others and to show off what he believes to be his superior intellect. The best strategy, most times, is to laughingly feign belief in and shock at his wild story and go along with it, asking questions etc.

The Aquarius male enjoys social interaction and like to be known for impressing groups of people for a good cause, thus a partner who also has these capabilities, is desired.

Appearing to be an open-minded person, he can be willing to explore unlimited horizons within limit, so long as it fits his idea of fairness or does not make him stand out in a negative way in his community.

But remember this: in any relationship with an unevolved and immature Aquarius male, he can coolly and quickly sacrifice your name and reputation or let you suffer in some way if he thinks standing by your side will make the public at large dislike him. Yes, he can throw you to the wolves.

This man typically is not classically attractive but can be, as in actor Paul Newman. But, if he has strong Aquarius energy or an Aquarius Ascendant, he can have bucked, crooked and broken teeth, a large nose with a bump in it, droopy eyelids/sleepy eyes, and a long neck and a long face like Ichabod Crane and this quirky physical appearance will somehow be somewhat attractive. It will be especially attractive, of course, to a woman who has a tendency to fall for unusual looking men. As with all Aquarius’ they need to watch out for injuries to the calves and ankles.

In intimate relationships, they are not very intimate. Aquarius males are great with the future and progressive thinking, but not so good the past. This is because 99% of Aquarius males have a paternal (father) situation where their father was absent from home a lot, abusive, alcoholic or a drug addict, commonly known for having sexual affairs and a cold, empty marriage with the mother, and as a result the Aquarius male never received guidance and instruction on being a warm and loving man in general and especially not with a woman. They feel “different”, sometimes to the point of weirdness and other times to the point of egoism (superiority). At the base of it is deep insecurity and fear at not being competent, loved and not being accepted. He grows up feeling inside that he cannot express himself in an intimate loving relationship with another individual…so he opts for focusing on the masses.

Due to innate insecurities and fears of not being competent, loved and accepted, they maintain a wall of defense, not allowing even someone they like or love to get too close. In close relationships, conflicts naturally occur – but this closeness does not get to occur with the Aquarius male. He would rather make a joke of things and begin talking about another topic to escape dealing with any topic which may cause emotions to be expressed. He will label emotional expression as “illogical”, “unnecessary” and “irrational”. He commonly will label YOU as “illogical”, “irrational” or “unreasonable” for expressing emotions. He is then likely to walk out of the room and refuse to discuss the topic at hand.

When he is angry, the Aquarius male will not yell or otherwise obviously show it. Instead, he will become very MEAN and say mean/cruel things that he knows or thinks will hurt you, with a glib smile. Then he will airily say he needs to go, and leave the room or hang up the telephone. He is also quite capable of doing something very mean to you out of anger.

Aquarius males like to talk about honesty and truth but it is always their truth and their version of honesty that is important. They can be quick to label you as dishonest or say that you do not know or speak the truth. This is also because they are by nature distrustful. This also means you must be wary of the Aquarius penchant for lying—lying done with a glib smile and intellectual air.

The Aquarius male tends to approach sex intellectually. He is awkward and uncomfortable about expressing his love through physical gestures. Actual physical sex may not occur for a very long time in a relationship with an Aquarius male. He likes to talk about fantasies and desires and share thoughts with a lover. He is inherently curious and so when sex finally occurs, he likes to experiment creatively between the sheets. They appreciate a confident sex partner.

It is when you are an outstanding (prominent or unusual) individual that he will notice you. The Aquarius male likes to collect “friends” who he may call friends but even after many years are only acquaintances, even if he accompanies them on short trips or camping, picnics with them, lets them stay in his home or has dinner with them once a month or so. He is merely being sociable. He prefers being alone in his home with his quirks that he thinks others will not accept from him. If he likes you, you are one of the MANY people he has generally befriended and that is not necessarily a bad thing as he can make such people feel they are receiving special attention from him.

Here is a prime Aquarius male trait, especially where it concerns women: he behaves in the exact opposite way that he is feeling inside. You see it is when the Aquarius male likes you way too much (as in, falling in love with you) that he has noticed you clearly and separated you from the crowd in his mind and heart. This means he has found you to be intellectually, emotionally (!!) and physically someone he desires.

Does this mean the Aquarius male will romance you? Not naturally!! In fact, because he has fallen in love with you he will likely cancel or forget or show up ridiculously late for appointments you have made for 1-1 activities (such as dinner). He will prefer public and group gatherings and at those he is prone to ignore you, not talk to you yet talk to everyone else, flirt with other women, and he is likely to tell his male buddies reasons why he does not trust you, and why he seemingly avoids you. But when no one else is looking, he is watching YOU at the party or other social event. He is collecting information on what significant people think of you. If you are a woman who is extroverted, gregarious, smiling, popular, intelligent and attractive (especially if you are of a different ethnicity, nationality, unusual in dress or appearance etc) he is following you around the room and at other times he has his ears open for any news about you. He is filing it all away in his mind because he wants to be able to “surprise” you with all the information he has gathered about you.

However, this is not a two-way street with the Aquarius male. He likes to “know” you but does not want you to know him or anything about him. If you let him know that you know anything about him he will make jokes, laugh, deny, and change the subject, especially desiring to turn it back to a discussion about you and what he “knows” about you.

When an Aquarius male ignores you, ignore him in return. He will get the message that if he wants to connect with you he must be mature and fair by acknowledging and talking with you. At that point, if you want to deal with this man any more, explain to him privately that he needs to relate better to you and lower his guard.

The Aquarius male is very obstinate and will hold to a position or opinion unless he 1) is confronted with the fact that it is unfair or inhumane or 2) realizes he is being unfair or inhumane. Sometimes he merely likes to see if he can “wind up” someone by resisting whatever they ask.

He is in his head often and spends a lot of time alone. When there is a conflict or potential for one he can run away, or at least say he needs to go for a (long…hours long) walk or ride alone. Leave him along and let him have his solitude. When he returns he will be in a much better mood, having resolved things in his mind and decided that things will be fine.

He has trouble coping with individual relationships because they require him to be authentic on a deep level. If lacking in maturity, he may be so unconscious of his behavior that he gets himself mentally wound up in fear of being alone with you and show up an hour or more late to meet you, and then only to cancel. Let him…and then do not make another appointment with him nor allow him to make one unless he states upfront that he will make the time for it.

The Aquarius male can be particularly emotionally cold, verbally mean and quite selfish. They will quickly and cheerfully do something for others, as long as it has no impact on their life. If still very stuck in their ego and immature, they will strongly resist doing anything to help another person if it will mean a sacrifice of time, money or emotional commitment. This emotional abandonment can leave any woman he is in a relationship with feeling rather uncared for and she is likely to leave the Aquarius – which typically baffles the unevolved Aquarius male
When he has become adult and evolved, the Aquarius male can move beyond these childish habits and be a superior intimate who is very committed (Aquarius is fixed energy). He will still ignore a woman he likes, at first, because he is shocked that he could care for one woman above all others. But once he lets his guard down, he will be an extremely considerate lover and best friend.

The women that Aquarius men desire are complex, mysterious, unusual, intelligent, and usually very caring and emotionally warm (in opposition to him!!) even if cool on the outside. She must be a woman who is a fighter and can hold her ground. He may outwardly claim that he likes women who are unobtrusive, blend in with the crowd and everyone likes them, but in reality he likes the outstanding, feisty, dramatic woman whose inner life is a mystery, whose motives and moves are complex and mysterious and who cannot be controlled and tamed. This is also the woman with whom he will compete because he likes challenges with her, even though he innately feels he is dominant to her and/or superior in some way He wants to be the man who is partnered with the woman everyone else wants to get close to and call friend/lover/wife.

Speaking of a wife, the Aquarius male is, especially in the late 20th/early 21st centuries, the man you will find shucking and jiving, ducking and covering, hiding and running from marriage. The sentence 'I love you' will take a long time to come from his mouth and even after that; don't expect the issue of marriage to pop out soon. If he is unevolved and immature he will lie or make up any excuse he can think of, to avoid it for as long as he can. The Aquarius male, more so than many others, can justify in his head having one or more extramarital sexual affairs, claiming it was not his intention or “it just happened” etc.

The sexually and emotionally dishonest cheating of the unevolved and immature Aquarius male (selfish, mean, dishonest) can even be the cause of a divorce, but he will quietly refuse to be the person who files for the divorce, because he wants his partner to be the one to “look bad” in the eyes of family, mutual friends, and acquaintances by filing for divorce against the “good guy Aquarius”.

Because of the fear of intimacy of a 1-1 daily relationship with a woman, the Aquarius male is very likely to move his girlfriend or family to a foreign country where he has social and professional advantage and can spend more time in the company of others than with her; OR he may look for or create a job in another country so that he is not home very often. It would not be unlikely for him to justify having sexual affairs while he is working overseas. It is not uncommon to find a marriage involving an Aquarius husband where the wife only sees him a few days a month to attend a cocktail party or a Sunday family dinner (to keep up appearances!)

Commonly, even prior to the 20th/21st centuries, the Aquarius male frequently divorced many times, unable to commit to marriage due to his quirks and habits. In present times, the Aquarius male may is likely to be more conscious about his fear of commitment to another person and his fear that he will be forced to spend long amounts of time with one person. He will reach his late 20s sexually inexperienced and emotionally naive about relationships with women. Courting is a puzzle to him and he moves slowly. He usually looks for a female who is his best friend. He will coolly hide his feelings of jealousy, which he WILL feel because he tends to choose as his mate woman who has her own popularity and entourage, so to speak.

If you are a woman who chooses to give an Aquarius male your time and energy for a significant period of time, one day, he will realize that his friends are moving in together, having babies, and marrying. Feeling left out of the crowd or that he must solve the mystery of marriage or even better yet, the mystery of you. Of course he realizes there is no guarantee that you can be uncovered and solved, but he is stubborn enough to spend decades married to you and delving into the mystery.

As his female partner, you will never worry about money. The Aquarius male will always secure money, through work or investments. Do not be extravagant with money or he will feel hurt. Having good finances is important to him. He can be very stingy on the extras but you will never lack for basics of having shelter, food, insurance, medical care and transportation. He will support you in working in an unusual profession or not making a regular salary as part of his Aquarius quirkiness. He will have outbursts of generosity every now and then. As fathers, most of Aquarian males are patient with their children and encourage them to play and fantasize. They are particularly excellent at helping their children with mathematics and science homework.The Aquarius male will be very reluctant to say so but in large part he married you so that he could have you around him all the time, loving and caring for him. He loves you, too, and hopes you know it. An Aquarius male seldom forgets his first love, the female who makes him feel special. He may not be so romantic, but every now and then, he comes up with such beautiful lines that you feel as if you are soaring in the sky. He may not want to celebrate his birthday or big fussy holiday occasions but suddenly he will say something so meaningful to you that you can excuse his earlier neglect (remember his charm?).

Aquarian Emotions - August 16 Eclipse

Aquarians, and those with Leo Ascendants are emerging this year with stories about emotional and sexual breakthroughs and outpourings and more are to come with the lunar eclipse in Aquarius on August 16, 2008.

Is your birthday anywhere between February 10 and February 16? Aquarians with birthdays on or within 3 days of February 13 are especially revealing stories of almost explosive emotional and sexual expression and release. In fact for many of these typically cool, casually witty and flirty Aquarians, it is as though someone dynamited the dam of their sexual and emotional inhibitions and fears and released a shocking yet satisfying torrent of emotions and sexual expression.

Looking at Aquarius for 2008 this was destined to be and will continue to be a year of permanently altering changes and experiences regarding dating, sex and love – because your emotions will be deeply and irrevocably involved. Your intimacy needs and sexual desires will have opportunity and almost compulsion to be expressed.

While you had some hopes for a new sexual year in the first few days of 2008, the year started off with some Saturnian restriction when it came to intimacy. Did you find yourself putting business, competition, control and self-imposed rules ahead of entering into a new relationship or enjoying your sex life with your partner? Saturn is about rules and restrictions and it may have put a damper on your sex life while you tried to decide mentally where you wanted to go sexually and intimately.

But no fear – 2008 is the year for you to conquer sex. Think back to the solar eclipse in Aquarius one of February 6, 2008. You made and/or had a date with someone within a week of that date. Whether you realized it or not, you embarked on a journey with that person that was marked by another interaction at the August 1, 2008 solar eclipse, and you will have opportunity to further blossom at the August 16, 2008 lunar eclipse in Aquarius. This lunation is likely to be the most emotionally and intimately intense period of 2008 because your physical, sexual AND emotional needs in a partnership will be thrown to the surface. The man or woman you are living with, dating, married to etc on August 16 is right where you need to be. You will not be able to ignore the emotional and sexual needs any more. It is time to shed the old skin, the old ways of being and embark on a new and exciting journey with a partner.

This is all quite shocking and disturbing to the Aquarius soul, which is cool and aloof on the outside and can talk up a witty, chatty storm, but on the inside, and extremely sensitive.

The lunar eclipse in Aquarius on Saturday August 16 is conjunct Neptune so the tendency to drown these sexual urgings and emotional intimacy needs in alcohol (or some other form of drug/mind-altering substance) at a party will be very tempting. How many will get drunk to avoid the uncomfortable feelings? Drunken sex is not good sex.

The positive solution, dear Aquarian, is, with clear eyes, to take your woman or man by the hand on that date, and share some good love-making. Start on Saturday August 16 and continue for at least the next two weeks into September! Get down to business and let the electric waters of pleasure flow between you! This is an emotionally cathartic time for you when you will best serve yourself, and best mature, by connecting body and soul to another human who is ready to journey alongside you and has simply been waiting for you to open yourself to the sweetness.

A Nodal Narrative, Part I

Relationships are always intriguing. We learn about ourselves through other people, which can be enjoyable or painful or a whole range of emotions. Today I will share with you a narrative which may be helpful your in understanding more about yourself and about astrology.

This will cover the nodes of the Moon (North and South Node) and some information about characteristics of Leo and Aquarius and some lessons in synastry (couple's astrology).

This narrative involves an Aquarius Sun man and his girlfriend. He has a Leo North Node one degree inside her 1st house (individual, self, initiative, ego) conjunct her Ascendant, and conversely that puts his Aquarius South Node 1 degree inside her 7th house (marriage, partnership, open enemies, others) and conjunct her Descendant. He also has an Aquarius Sun and Venus inside her 7th house; however we will focus on the nodes of the Moon in this situation. His Gemini Moon is also conjunct her Gemini North Node. His Gemini Moon is also conjunct my Gemini North Node. I will look at that aspect at a later date. For now, he is the nodal person in this narrative.

The Nodal Narrative: The relationship has both romantic/sexual overtones and friendship elements to it. When they met under Sun in Leo, she felt a WHAM and knew this man would be someone significant and with whom she would likely have a relationship or significant memory of, all her life. His presence felt very much like “destiny”.

Their relationship immediately began with what became a significant common interest and that was a particular group in which she was involved as a leader and to which she invited him to participate as a leader. Over several months, at first unbeknown to her, he took the position of passively going along with members of the group in criticizing her, and some points he was secretly participating in gossiping about her, undermining her leadership. (She realized he was doing it shortly after he began doing it, although he denied it; later he voluntarily admitted it to her, as though finally fully realizing what he had done and how it made things worse, and he apologized to her for it). The criticism centered on her confident,  individualualistic personality and ability to take initiative. Her Leo Ascendant and 1st house come through very strongly. She is not arrogant; simply individual, and she has the emotional maturity confidence that comes from life experience. She also had been impervious to the criticism and ventured into other pursuits when she realized members of the group were not only being critical but had no alternative solutions that would bring the criticism to a halt. In short, they simply were getting off on being critical and making complaints. When she moved onto new, yet related pursuits, this man with the Aquarius South Node (which you remember, is inside her 7th house of partnership, marriage and open enemies) tried to pull HER into line with the group of criticizers and force her to feel that their approval was important, by telling her “Someone asked, ‘Who authorized her?’ and I was wondering myself what you are up to”. At that point she realized how stuck he was in needing group approval (his Aquarius South Node) and she responded with two things:

First, she told him she did not need anyone’s authorization nor did she need to submit her activities and life activities to him or a group so that they could be aware of what she was doing and approve of it.

Second, she asked him why he was so afraid to stand by her, defend her and move away from such a gossipy, jealous, complaining group of people. She told him she thought he was much too wound up in needing other’s approval in his life. He admitted she was correct and said he is trying to change that within himself. He also agreed she did not owe him any information as to what she was doing with her daily schedule and life in general.

For now, let’s first look generally at the nodes of the Moon and what they represent, then specifically at the Leo/Aquarius nodes of the other person in this situation. In the future I will revisit this situation with the woman as the nodal person, using her Gemini North Node and Sagittarius South Node in the narrative.

The North Node: The sign and house of the North Node represents circumstances and activities that usually feel unfamiliar. It is the shadow side of the South Node sign, and it is the key to getting your dreams fulfilled. This is why the North node reveals an area of tremendous growth potential in your life. In short, you are drawn to personal growth and change in this lifetime by the North Node, and pulled back in time to past-life energy by the South Node. The North Node brings you opportunities to connect with others who can lead you out of your own particular South Node bad habits and repetitive behavior. Here is where you can find new ways of being, potential friends and allies, undeveloped talents, and soulfully awakening experiences. You will undoubtedly attract people who help fulfill or represent your North Node potential -- just this man has attracted me into his life. Be aware that you might project your dreams (especially your South Node dreams) upon them, thus failing to live up to your own potential and falling back into your negative South Node habits. You can avoid this pitfall by recognizing and realizing the potential within yourself!

The South Node: The sign and house of the South Node represents habit patterns from childhood or from past lives. This is where and how you have a tendency to totally overdo things. In a synastry chart (or relationship) this is an area where you may project these habits onto your partner and-or inject them into your relationship. These are comfortable patterns, but they often get in the way of you having the kinds of connections you want with other people. Your South Node indicates an area of longing, but also of massive talent and gifts. The trick is channeling those gifts properly. There is a longing there, a craving that is very strong. The nature of this longing is shown by the sign of the South Node. For example, in Aquarius, the craving is for approval from the group

The North Node in Leo represents the spiritual call for you to strike out in your own individual and creative path without fear. You need to make a conscious effort to deal with individual others in a more personal, involved, and loving manner, rather than falling back on reason and intellect which detaches us from our feelings. You are being called to acknowledge the uniqueness of individuals and to be willing to stand by those individuals rather than go along with the group. This placement means you must learn to take personal risks, which requires a certain amount of self-confidence, will help us to achieve inner balance and happiness. Growth in this lifetime for you means you must stop rationalizing your feelings in your head and start acting from your heart. Leo is an extremely creative sign, and to try to “blend in” with the group as an Aquarius South Node prefers cuts off a very real part of you that longs for expression. You will undoubtedly attract people with strong Leo placements (Ascendant, Sun, Moon) who are in your life to help fulfill or represent your North Node potential. Be aware that you might project your dreams (especially your Aquarius South Node dreams) upon them, thus failing to live up to your own potential and falling back into your negative South Node habits. You are starving yourself and preventing fulfillment of your dreams by giving up your individuality to the group. You can kill a relationship with your partner, mate or friend if you project this energy onto them by not supporting their daring and dreams of individual achievements. You find your true sense of belonging when you affirm your individuality or another's individuality, or take the risk of standing out from the crowd. When you do this you attract the right group of friends to you for your spiritual growth.

The South Node in Aquarius represents a strong urge to belong in a group. Your old pattern is to make your way by “fitting in,” letting go of your ego to promote a cause, and letting the energy of a group carry you. You try and find this sense of belonging by remaining a spectator in life rather than a participant. This position suggests you have a tendency to a) rely on others who may let you down, b) come across as impersonal or distant in your dealings with others, c) to be fearful of being the center of attention and standing out as an individual, to fear taking risks, and to fall back on peers and community at the expense of your own individuality. With this position, we need to avoid falling into the easy trap of worrying about what others think about you. You worry about having everyone speak well of you and you want to be everyone’s friend. You can easily alienate individuals when you over-emphasize equality to the point that you will not acknowledge an individuals' uniqueness. In the process you can lose a valuable relationship. You can too easily lose touch with your own heart by rationalizing your feelings, and become overly involved with the group or other people's problems at the expense of your inner needs for attention or at the expense of a relationship with a person who has a stronger individual sense of self and/or self-esteem. An example would be going along with the crowd in excluding or labeling as “bad” the confident individual who chooses to be or do something different from the group.

Finally, think about this -- The North Node is the head containing the mouth through which things pass to the South Node where you find the hungry stomach. You can fulfill the longing of the South Node through the passage of healthy energizing actions through the North Node. If you feed through “empty calories” of weak behaviors and old familiar patterns, the South Node is never fulfilled and it regurgitates (vomits!) or gives painful emotional and spiritual heartburn/acid reflux and you are still hungry in your soul.

These are all in play with this lunation in Taurus on May 5. Venus-ruled Taurus governs our commitment to be steady providers for those we love and care about, such as our families and communities. Taurus likes what is real. Do things in a real way. Case study: A few years ago, a pre-Saturn Return male client of mine had a woman friend he dated but to whom he never committed despite thinking she was pretty, sexy, caring and intelligent and enjoying her company and thier conversations. It was under the influence of a New Moon in Taurus that May, that he finally committed emotionally and sexually to this woman he cared for. He was tired of the haphazard world of dating and irregular one-night stands and realized he wanted some stability. However, he was still fearful of committing to another person and any responsibility that would entail. He decided to approach it both emotionally and "practically" by telling her he wanted to take their relationship further and asking her to move into his home, so that she would no longer need to spend money on rent and could use it instead to pay off her bills. She moved in with him a month later in June. She was able to pay off her debts and significantly add to her retirement savings (which impressed him), and to create the beautiful home she always wanted to create (which meant he benefited from her decorating, cooking and stable organization of their social life) and he became noticeably happier. During this time he opened up to her emotionally and allowed himself to admit his love for her and to be loved by her. Their living together thus became more than a benevolent financial arrangement. They became engaged nearly a year after she moved in and set a wedding date for the following summer. She was then able to contribute to a joint fund for their wedding and her secret wedding gift to him was to pay for a surprise side-trip during their honeymoon to a place she knew he always wanted to visit (which he really enjoyed!).

Speaking of finances, this New Moon in Taurus is a prime time to get your finances in order using a realistic plan. Examine how you meet your daily needs and look at the lifestyle you desire to live. Decide what makes you happy and what you can do to achieve it that is responsible. Make practical financial goals, commit to a budget (meaning live within your budget!) and create a savings/investment plan. Taurus calls for a moderate, even approach to finances so that when there are lean times, one is not affected and can still enjoy luxuries. Like the lesson of the fable of the ant and the grasshopper, be moderate and save during the abundant times and sit back and enjoy during the lean times.

Venusian Taurus is all about enjoyment and it a good thing to enjoy working at what you love – and it helps you fund the budget you have made! We have been dealing with the cool, detached emotions and fears of Venus in Aquarius for almost a month. People have been putting up emotional walls, denying their true feelings and running from intimate relationships. Relationships have been breaking up, especially spurred on by the Full Moon lunar eclipse of February 21.This is the Uranian aspect of Aquarius. The breakdown, breakups and escapes from love have been prefaced by cool, controlled, and sometimes sharply critical rationality (to mask fear). At the same time we have all had the celestial support to stand back, detach, gather facts and information and reflect upon WHY we may want to get involved in a relationship with someone or WHAT we like about the relationship in which we are currently involved. This is the Saturnian aspect of Aquarius.

Now, as Venus is on its way out of the constellation of Aquarius, it encounters Neptune in Aquarius. Neptune in Aquarius can encourage compassion, spirituality, creativity and idealism. It can also promote deceit, lying, withholding of self and information. Brought together today, Venus and Neptune is a soft energy that dissolve the unnecessary walls and encourage people to work together to fulfill their common and separate dreams out of love for one another – being it a platonic love for another human being or a sexual/romantic love for a special someone.

Sun enters Pisces, Venus enters Aquarius

There is no shortage of celestial influence today as Mercury retrograde in Aquarius ends, the Sun enters Pisces and Venus begins its transit through Aquarius.

You computer and car will finally stop malfunctioning and giving you stress, however communication in your relationships may not become easy overnight.

This is because while Mercury retrograde’s strongest influence is done, the shadow is still there until early March AND the Sun in Pisces will increase the emotional sensitivity between you and your special someone AND Venus entering Aquarius signifies detachment and aloofness from emotion.

Let us review the strongest influence I see here, Venus in Aquarius. Independence, lots of space, freedom, individuality and separatenes -- these are what Venus in Aquarius seeks in a relationship. Situations that allow for these characteristics are the ones where relationships flourish for the native with this placement. As a transit, this can be challenging and it may feel as though your partner is leaving you -- or you may want to leave your partner.

Do you know someone who has Venus in Aquarius? There is a significant sexuality issue here. This planet-in-sign indicates that in a prior lifetime the person experienced some sort of sexual abuse or misuse, most likely forcibly locked into sexual unions against their free will. This was very traumatic. Now in this lifetime, there may still be some trauma around sexual issues (for example the person may experience rape or molestation at an early age). They may have trouble forming pleasurable sexual relationships as an adult. They may have trouble comfortably touching someone of the opposite sex (if their orientation is heterosexual) or may feel awkward and anxious about being touched, hugged or kissed. They are likely to be sexual late bloomers.

Aquarius is a sign that seeks truth, humanitarianism, independence and is very progressive in its approach to life. Yet, it is also imbued with a hidden sense of caution because it is co-ruled by Saturn. For Venus in Aquarius people there is a need to seek attention for being unique - being The Rebel. This is the polarity of Leo creeping into the Aquarius personality. Aquarius likes to shake up the mix! They like to be known for speaking existential "truths". They can also be rather voyeuristic about other's sexual and romantic lives, wanting to openly discuss the details of the other person's life because it is a "radical" approach to such an intimate issue (and because talking about sex and relationships covertly excites them by stimulating their mind)....but detaching and hiding when it comes to revealing their own private sexual and romantic details!

Warning!! A relationship with a person who has Venus in Aquarius may not feel like much of a relationship at all. There is a fear of the emotions and detachment is common. Detachment may be good (looking at things from another perspective) or bad (running from feelings and BSing intellectually about emotions). These people also typically do not form close personal romantic bonds until later in life than most, if they form them at all. Examples of this are feminist Gloria Steinem, who married for the first time at age 60, and talk show host Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey (who did experience childhood rape and became a teenage mother), is in her 50s and has had a long-term relationship with partner Steadman Graham, but states traditional marriage is not something she wants in this lifetime.

Sun in Pisces
This annual occurrence brings a strong influence of emotions and sentimentality to life. Intuition is especially heightened and decisions are made that include consideration of feelings. Pisces is also a creative sign.

In terms of relationships, expect that your partner or you may be more aware of emotions than in recent times. Feelings will be taken into consideration and will be voiced in conversations. There is a desire to merge, to be at one, to be in synchronicity with the partner; conversely it hurts when it does not happen.

So how will these two influences work together? The Double Dolphins will be swimming in the waves of electrified waves. You could find yourself with the urge to merge and just as you get close your partner shocks you with an electric bolt of detachment of aloofness that leaves you stunned and feeling alone. Or you could be the one who is unable to cope with the emotions in the relationship and you put up an icy wall of electricity that shocks the other person away from you. Maybe you even throw some lightning bolts out of fear (disguised as cool *rational* anger or being "too busy" to relate to/talk to the partner) if you get frightened enough of your or your partner's emotions.

The best possible scenario? That you and your partner both use the next three weeks until March 10 to articulate the emotional issues in your relationship, come to a compromise about any problems and learn to respect that there are times for emotions and times for rationality in an intimate relationship. The key is BALANCE.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse: February 20/21, 2008

This year has been a very active one astronomically, with significant movements: Saturn in Virgo retrograde, Mars in Gemini retrograde and then stationing direct, Chiron and Venus in Aquarius, a New Moon solar eclipse in he constellation of Leo and now, a Full Moon total lunar eclipse in the constellation of Virgo is occurring on February 20/21, 2008.

At exactly 4:27 am CET the Sun will be moving opposite the Moon through the constellation of Pisces 1º53’. The Earth will align exactly between the Moon in Virgo and Sun in Pisces, blocking the light of the Sun to the Moon. For astrological purposes, because it is so close to the next degree, it is considered to be at 2º Virgo. Those with planets between 28º Leo through 5º Virgo will be most affected, as will the life areas covered by those houses in a person’s natal chart.

To calculate the times when it will occur for you, here are some time zones: 10:27 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on the east coast of the Americas, 7:27 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on the west coast, and 03:27 Universal Time (UT) and 4:27 am Central European Time (Copenhagen, Brussels).

When Full Moons occur we are more emotional and during a lunar eclipse it is magnified. We become more creative and artistic; our spirituality and intuition are also heightened and we are more emotionally connected to people and situations. We can feel quite stressed because of this change in emotional environment. However if we do not resist what is causing us to “feel deeper” we will open new doors of possibilities and opportunities. The stress can feel like a crisis – and in Chinese philosophy, a crisis is a combination of chaos and opportunity. What began at the New Moon now comes to fruition at the Full Moon.

You can expect that an old phase of your life or some part of it is coming to and end. It is likely that something new began within five days of the solar eclipse on February 7 (so that would be somewhere between February 2 and February 12). However, because eclipses are so strong, there can be significant events as late as two weeks after the eclipse. Where the solar eclipse fell in your chart will receive more attention until the total solar eclipse in Leo on August 1, 2008. That solar eclipse on February 7 is the primary area in which you will need to focus; this lunar eclipse on February 21 will be the secondary area of chaos/opportunity and will give you insight as to what hidden or repressed areas you must release into the open in order to grow in the direction required by the solar eclipse. This lunar eclipse will highlight events where it falls in your chart until the partial lunar eclipse in Aquarius on August 16, 2008.

For example, if the solar eclipse on February 7, 2008 fell in your 1st house, you are being called to balance individuality and independence and the self with partnership, marriage, and/or business relationships – to become balanced in your dealings with and consideration/inclusion of the “other”. Now, this lunar eclipse will highlight what you are really valuing and what you expect from a partner on a very intimate level, either sexually, financially, of psychologically – or any combination of the three areas.

For many single people with a Leo Ascendant, it was a time of coming into close contact with a genuine marriage or life partner and the lunar eclipse in Virgo occurs in the 2nd house and will highlight anything that must be recognized, acknowledged, changed, transformed, and/or healed in order for the marriage/partnership to take place. There could be a change from icy singlehood with financial struggles and sexual wounds or celibacy to a deeply caring, warm and very healing sexual relationship with a partner who balances out your finances and who becomes your marriage partner. It could even be that YOU are healing for that partner in those same ways!

Saturn in Virgo retrograde is in close orb to this eclipse, giving it an energy that means there will be an air of caution, common sense, slowness of movement and decision. Taking responsibility and doing things in a responsible manner will be a strong part of whatever happens during this eclipse.

Mercury retrograde in Aquarius is ending just before this eclipse, so there will be a chance to communicate in a more articulate fashion and matters which seemed confusing or stagnant in the three weeks previous will now begin to be clarified. People with a Sun in Aquarius, in particular, may find they can finally say what has been on their minds/what they want concerning relationships, work and finances. Now is the time when Sun Aquarius people may find they want to initiate healing by opening up to a partner or potential partner by getting in touch with and voicing the feelings they have been detaching from in the past months.

A special note: for some people, the solar eclipse heralded the removal of a male from your life; similarly, this lunar eclipse may herald the removal of a female from your life, or conversely, if you are female, if may herald your removal from a male's life (remember, you may want to remove yourself from some male's life if you now realize it is your best path). You may want to lay low, keep things emotionally light, or take the week off and have some space in order to avoid unecessary arguments.

I do know some people who take a few days of vacation alone or intentionally avoid email, the tephone and generally avoid people when eclipses come that touch significant points in their charts.

One cycle is ending and another beginning, with a strong humanitarian flavor this month. That is because we are experiencing a solar eclipse at the beginning of the month.

A solar eclipse is when the Moon is exactly between the Sun and the Earth and blocks the light of the Sun from the Earth. Solar eclipses are very powerful New Moons and are the harbingers of important endings and beginnings. The effects of a solar eclipse are equal in years to the number of minutes the eclipse lasts. The immediate visible effects of the eclipse can be seen in intervals of six months for a period of two years. You get an opportunity to break an old pattern and see a metamorphosis of your life that brings growth and healing.

The New Moon begins at 17°44 February 7, 2008 and the solar eclipse occurs at 3:56 am EST at 17°56 degrees of Aquarius. Peole with Sun signs in the fixed signs (Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, Scorpio) will be most strongly affected, as will those with Aquarius and Leo Ascendants. No more empty promises of accomplishing something once you get this or that other things or future fantasies. Under this New Moon in Capricorn, focus on what you can obtain now:

1. Brainstorm what you want to achieve, write the steps you must take to achieve it and then commit to patiently following each step no matter how hard it is and no matter how long it takes.
2. Take the work you can get now and trust that it will be the right step in getting your dream job in the future.
3. Work with what you have now and stop fantasizing about what you do not have but wish you did.

Finances:
Saturn, deeply connected to tradition and security, does not like to take risks. This New Moon empowers some profound intuitive internal thought about what you actually need to achieve financial success and security. We are told we cannot make a good financial living doing what we love. The truth is you will be financially secure as well as spiritually and/or creatively successful if you believe in yourself and work hard at what you love. You must be judicious about spending, and do without or do with less. We must make the sacrifices necessary to not follow the crowd.

The occurrence of Sun, Moon and Jupiter in Capricorn trine (a favorable astrological aspect) Saturn in Virgo translates into a prime opportunity for setting achievable and successful realistic financial goals and eliminating excessive spending. This is the New Moon to create a BUDGET and a commit to it. Capricorn spends conservatively, shrewdly and sometimes not at all. Do you really need the thing you are about to buy? Is it beyond your basic housing and shelter needs? How can you spend less and what do you really not need? If we are honest what ourselves, it is many things.

How can you do this? Start practicing Zen and the Art of Shopping to become conscious of your consumption of materials things. Be aware of how you are mentally and physically when you shop. Pay attention! As yourself:

1. Do I really need this?
2. What other ways could I use this money I am about to spend?
3. Can I put this money away for my future instead of spending it now?

Future Growth:
This New Moon in committed Capricorn is the New Moon to dedicate yourself to becoming responsible for your emotional and spiritual growth and the enlightenment our human community on Earth. The threat of global warming is real, as is destruction through the heartless, thoughtless, arrogant warfare based on discrimination by class, race, and ethnicity. A very few constantly take from the masses so that poverty is at nearly everyone’s doorstep through uneven distribution and over-consumption We must awaken and cease these things or for humankind there will be no future.

Full Moon Rising:
The two weeks after the New Moon, the Moon waxes to a Full Moon in Leo on January 22, 2008. This means that NOW is the most advantageous time to build the energy of your intentions. Plan to start taking take action on your New Moon at the Full Moon in Leo.

Electrical Sparks

It has been almost two months since I encountered The Dane. In that time I have recruited him to work on the committee for the international group I chair. He is quiet, detached, cooperative and friendly most of the time but has a lot of nervous energy and likes to be independent.

I am suspecting The Dane is an Aquarius. If so, boy am I, a Virgo with a Leo Ascendant and Aquarius-cusped 7th house, in trouble!

This last weekend we led a trip we co-organized to a beautiful Danish island named Bornholm. This was for the international students group.

In general, minus complaints (the Germans thought the Spaniards were too slow and lazy, the Spaniards though the trip was moving too fast because we didn't stop to have coffee/beer in each town, the typical Danish rain at some points, rough seas on the arriving ferry, which could not be helped and unfortunately made some people ill), it was a good trip and one I enjoy taking at least twice a year.

Just prior to leaving The Dane and I ran some errands in one of the vans and grabbed some dinner at McDonald's, and I could feel little sparks shooting from him to me again as we drove around for the errands and especially while we ate. The smiles and shots of electricity across the table were palpable. I could tell he was also nervous. During the trip itself, The Dane made the rounds, finding witty, sociable remarks to make to everyone and trying to meet everyone's need.

Once, in the hostel, I walked up on The Dane as he was going from the bathroom to his room, wearing only his briefs and a t-shirt. Surprising myself, me, who doesn't get impressed physically, I really took notice! Quite a nice body. What struck me the most about him was his powerful calves.

Oh, and for future note...one young German woman (early 20s?), who I shall call German Girl visibly got a crush on him. She resembles the sterotypical cartoons and pictures I have seen over the years of no-nonsense militaristic androgynous women. She has dyed magenta-reddish hair cut very close to her head, pinched fine nose and mouth and waers small wire-rimmed glasses. She is very short overweight, square woman with a small chest, thick waist hips and legs, and broad shoulders. She dresses very plainly and neatly, all in black for the most part. Wherever The Dane stood or walked, German Girl was right behind him.

The Dane talked a lot to her and danced with her, interested in her because he has been studying German and wants to have someone to practice with; I could see her crush developing by the minute. It was a bit humuous to observe that The Dane had no idea (naievete?) that the more he talked to her, the more enamored she became, grinning from ear to ear.

I also realized I was doing very typical 7th house Aquarius behavior: standing back, being very unemotional and detached about this man with whom I feel lightning bolts and sparks. I found it amusing that females were swarming around him and he was coolly trying to be everyone's friend. It also felt weirdly comfortable, familiar and freeing.

Hmmm a man who is uncomfortable 1-1, great in groups and naive around women, powerful calves, electrical sparks...I am still thinking The Dane is an Aquarius! Have you experienced this kind of behavior from an Aquarius in your life?

Chiron in Aquarius, Part II

In the first part of this article we took a look at the ending of Chiron in Capricorn and the beginning of Chiron in Aquarius. It is a significant and somewhat painful time for those with Sun or Chiron in Aquarius (the latter would be a person about 50 years old, experiencing a Chiron Return).

So if pretending to be the great humanitarian or philanthropist or in a subtle manner chasing the spotlight and the microphone or withdrawing is not going to bring human connection, what will? What does this mean for the global community?

It means, in an individual level, to be you. Put on your nerd glasses, take off the makeup and be yourself. Cherish your eclectic habits and general eccentricity and allow others to do so. Chiron in Aquarius will wear you down, and it could be painful (!) until you do so. The compassionate healing that comes from Chiron in Aquarius is in being able to acknowledge your unique contributions to the world, to accept that you are a significant part of the world and that others enjoy your individual expression.

On a global level this is about the flowering of support groups for those are on the fringe - such as those dealing with sexual orientation issues, those who are out of the mainstream artists and musicians, and those screaming for civil rights and basic human rights.

Chiron in Aquarius is the portrait of the Wounded Community. It is the representation of the distrust of hope and retreat from ideals. It is a distrust of institutions and authority. It demands consciousness-raising to reveal how our collective ideas isolate us from each other.

Chiron in Aquarius last occurred January 1955 until March 1960. This was the suburban '50s in the USA, a period of withdrawal from idealism after the weary shock of war. In his final presidential address, Dwight Eisenhower, the great general, warned America against the growing influence of the military-industrial complex. Eisenhower was a prophet in that moment, even though the USA has ignored his message. The USA is known as a comparatively ill-educated country when it comes to math, science, and the arts. It is considered by many to be barbaric, blood-thirsty, war-mongering, isolationist and arrogant.

So what can you do on a personal level if you have Sun and/or Chiron in Aquarius? Allow this long-term transit to open your eyes to where you are approaching things with your head and not your heart. That approach will not work anymore because that shadow expression will only bring you pain. Aquarius rules astrology, technology, computers, lightning and thunder. It is the sign of brilliance. Now is the time for emotions to be integrated with the creation of computer programs. Think about how they will be used and how that usage might affect someone in the world. Astrology can be used to compassionately empower people and assist them in making better connection with themselves and with other people. What we are doing to the globe is showing in unusual weather patterns and occurrences. Think on ways you can do you part of be more compassionate to the Earth.

One last word - if you are Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, Chiron in Aquarius will deeply affect you, too. Taurus and Scorpio will feel it even strong than Leo. When life gets painful, think about what you can do to not just alleviate the pain, but to effectively resolve the painful issues that Chiron brings to the surface. Whether it is a physical illness, being overweight, inability to get along with your peers, or financial issues (all for example), it is time to deal!

Chiron in Aquarius, Part I

The pain of isolation, of knowing you are the “outcast freak”, the eccentric who doesn’t quite fit in with others no matter what you try to do, is the wound and the healing energy of Chiron in Aquarius. On February 21, 2005 Chiron ingresses or moves briefly into the sign of Aquarius. It remains there for a few months, returns to Capricorn, then moves into Aquarius on December 7, 2005 until April 24, 2010 when it moves into Pisces; it retrogrades into Aquarius on July 23, 2010 and then goes direct again until it reaches Pisces again on February 18, 2011.

When the microscope is turned upon Aquarius it is plain to see there is a NEED to belong to a group, to surround oneself with people and feel like you are part of a superhuman force. Can you think of any Aquarius celebrity, member of royalty or private citizen who surrounds herself or himself with famous or notable people and/or appears to be a great humanitarian and/or philanthropist? – yet you can sense she/he feels totally alone? In some sense, the Leo tendency to buy people’s love and respect is happening if that is what you see in a person born with a Sun or Chiron in Aquarius. They know they are on the outside looking in, but if they can just hide it by looking great in the spotlight, posing just right, saying the right thing, looking fashionable, giving away a lot of money and/or doing charitable acts, they think, things will be fine.
However, Chiron is now in the constellation of the Water-Bearer, and when Chiron it is in Aquarius, you can feel so isolated, excluded and out of sync. You are outside of things, so eclectic and eccentric. You may feel about to be swallowed up in the vortex pf humanity and so you withdraw, become aloof and defeat your very goal. What is your goal? It is to have authentic connection with people.

The effects of Chiron in Capricorn are apparent in the global economy. Chiron in Capricorn has shown the deep wound and infection of corruption in business by spiritually warped male authority figures. It has revealed the holes in a longstanding fairy tale of prosperity and official social order that has no soul. It has shown a spotlight on unmitigated institutional greed at the expense of human lives and dignity. Chiron in Capricorn has also showed how these diseases can be healed – by removing those so willing to be corrupt, punishing some and by instituting practices that are for the public benefit of all, not just to line the pockets of the already rich. Chiron in Capricorn showed that everyone is affected by what is done privately.

Now Chiron has begun its journey into Aquarius and it has a message for the human community.
